Get Wyn

Wyn 1.1 has Wine and Apple's D3DMetal inside the app, signed and notarized; it is a pre-release while it is being tested. Wyn 1.0 is the previous release: it downloads its Wine runtime on first launch and has no D3DMetal.

Drag Wyn to Applications and open it. Everything 1.1 needs is inside the app: Wine, DXMT, DXVK and Apple's D3DMetal. Setup installs them from the app itself, so nothing is compiled and only Steam is downloaded.

You need an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 15 or later, and Rosetta 2 — Wine's unix half is x86_64. If you do not have it: softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license.

Wyn is free software under GPL-3.0-or-later, and you are entitled to the source for the build you just downloaded: https://github.com/JellyBean47/wyn. The Wine runtime inside it is LGPL, and its exact source is published beside the download: Wyn-1.1-runtime-source.tar. Or build it yourself:

That needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14 or later, Xcode 16 or later, and Rosetta 2 (softwareupdate --install-rosetta). A source build downloads a hash-pinned Wine runtime instead of carrying one, and does not ship Apple GPTK.

Which renderer you get

The download runs 11 of the 11 verified titles here, with no compiler and nothing else to install: D3DMetal (Direct3D 11 and 12 to Metal), DXMT (Direct3D 11 to Metal), DXVK, and Wine's own builtins all ship inside the app. Every game page says which side it falls on.

D3DMetal is in the download from Wyn 1.1. It is Apple's, from the Game Porting Toolkit, and Apple's licence lets Wyn pass it on free of charge: Wyn carries it unmodified, with Apple's licence beside it, and Wyn stays free. A source build still takes it from your own copy of Apple's GPTK:

That path compiles Wine from source, so it also wants brew install ccache mingw-w64.
